The European Commission with support from the European Level Crossing Forum is organising a high-level workshop focused on the communication of good practices between member states. The workshop is to be held in Brussels, Belgium. It is intended that education of road users and pedestrians will be an important sub-theme within the workshop. |

Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Safety Course |
The University of Wisconsin is holding a two day training course addressing level crossing safety. The course teaches the basic principles of level crossing safety and applies them to existing and new projects. Topics covered are
- Programme roles of state and local governments, including funding
- US DOT national grade crossing inventory
- Traffic control devices
- Geometric design and grade separations
- Level crossing roadway surfaces
- Crossing closures and consolidation strategies
- Public education and outreach programmes
- Train detection and warning systems
- Traffic signal pre-emption
- Interconnection of level crossing warning devices and traffic signals
- Quiet zones
- Wayside horns

Operation in the Railway and other Transit Systems (COMPRAIL

This
conference which is to be held in Beijing, China aims to update
the use of computer-based techniques, promoting their general
awareness throughout the business management, design, manufacture
and operation of railways and other advanced passenger, freight
and transit systems.
The meeting provides a forum for engineers,
planners, designers, manufacturers and operators, to discuss
how they can benefit from the latest developments. It will
also provide a forum for transit and rail operators.
The
conference will be of interest to all have an interest in
the development and application of computer techniques for
the solution of problems in the railway and other mass transit
systems.
The
conference organisers have announced that level crossings
